The swords in this category are replicas. The blades are unsharpened, and are actually used in Ken-do and Iai-do.
The artificial blades are made of zinc alloy, guaranteeing the sword safety and allowing them to be easily shipped overseas. The make of the mountings are based on real swords and carefully examined by Fuji-Torii, which is licensed as an authentic art dealer. The hilts of the swords are wound with glossy silk thread, while the scabbards are made with magnolia and finished with lacquer.
Each metal piece is also done in a very intricate manner, so the swords look quite genuine.

Free accessories
Every item includes a wooden sword stand.
The stand allows the sword to be displayed either with or without the scabbard.
One side of the stand has two sets of holders for displaying the sword and the scabbard. By turning the stand around, you can display the sword in its scabbard.

In the late 16th Century, Tadaoki Hosokawa (1564-1645) was a major figure on the battle field. Over the years he formed a great army and become famous for the Higo-Hosokawa clan, named after the type of sword he used. He was awarded land in Higo (Kumamoto prefecture) for his battles and it was after this area that the sword was named. As well as a great genaral, he was also a master of the Waka poem, Tea ceremony and the the well-known theatre dramas presented by the Noh actors.

This famous sword mounting was not only considered the most basic, but also the most practical of swords from around the 1600's. The hilt was vary special in that the top-end material was water-buffalo horn, which was "thread wrapped" over the hilt-end. The shape resembles that of two inverted cones (Ryo-Ryu-go) with a very slim "waist" in the middle similar to the shape of Hand-drums(Tsudumi). Such was the elegance and practicality of this sword mounting that it became a favorite of Genaral Ieyasu Tokugawa.

RENYA YAGYU was a master of swordmanship for the Tokugawa family in Owari prefecture and invented a unique idea for mounting of swords. The position of the Menuki (Hilt ornament) is sightly lower than usual so that both left and right handed can use it for Yagyu school way. The scabbard is covered with a Inro-kizami (1/4" width) with a rope-like protective material so that the scabbard can be used to defend the swordsman if he can not remove the sword in time, as in the case of very sudden attack.

This sword was only used on very formal occasions such as Shogun court events of local prefecture gatherings in castles. Its distinctive feature is the exposed ray-skin hilt (without silk tape) and no guard style. When used in battles or duels, the hilt was wrapped with thread over the ray-skin to strengthen it. However, for formal occasions, the thread was removed, revealing a simple but beautiful ray-skin and also indicating there was no intention to fight.
